Every time someone opens their heart and home to foster a Maremma, it gives us the space and time to rescue another dog in need — and it gives that dog a chance to heal, trust, and thrive again.

At West Coast Maremma and Livestock Guardian Rescue, foster carers are the heart of what we do. They provide the safe, understanding environment that every Maremma needs before finding their forever home.

What Fostering Means

When you foster, you temporarily care for a Maremma who may:

Need to learn social skills or rebuild confidence
Be waiting for a permanent, breed-appropriate home

You’re not on your own we will provide ongoing support, guidance, and cover essential vet costs. You provide the time, space, and kindness that help a Maremma transition from rescue to rehome.

Who Can Foster

You don’t need to have a farm or livestock to foster though rural or semi-rural properties with secure fencing are required.

We welcome fosters who:

Have patience and an understanding of large, independent dogs
Can provide structure, boundaries, and consistency
Are open to working closely with our team to help assess and support each dog

Every foster home is different and that’s okay. Some Maremmas do best in a quiet environment; others thrive with purpose and space. We’ll help match you with the right dog for your lifestyle and experience.

What We Provide

We supply:

All veterinary care, medications, and behavioural support
Ongoing guidance
Advice on introductions to other animals, fencing, and daily management

You supply love, safety, and a place for a dog to belong even if it’s just for a while.
